The Healing Cycle

The SomaTalk™ Healing Cycle invokes the soma (body) to talk, to fully express what it has been holding in through sensing what is present, opening defenses, expressing emotion and ultimately awakening to peace. The Healing Cycle is a parts-based, body-centered emotional processing method infused with breathwork.

During SomaTalk™ Healing cycles, clients listen to a voice deeper than words — Somatic intuition, opening, expression and awakening occurs. Clients use the power of breath to awaken and move feelings. Clients learn to listen deeply to a voice of loving-kindness.

In a Healing Cycle, the body (soma) is a source of information and regulation. Clients are guided to pay attention to and dialogue with Story, Shape and Shadow Parts of self directly experienced in the body through four somatic processing phases:

Sensing: clients befriend parts of self through sensory tracking

Opening: clients learn to notice and open defenses to feeling with compassion, gesturing and postural movements.

Moving: using breathwork to stimulate glands stuck emotions are invoked and invited to move through the body

Awakening: the body speaks through the heart; the voice of intuition and loving-kindness. A deep sensing of presence and peace. A listening practice

The SomaTalk™ Healing Cycle transitions clients from states of contraction to openness and ease, assisting in creating safety to access parts of self client has worked so hard to avoid. The parts of self we don’t see (like the roots of a tree) are our exiled, shadow parts. These parts have ages, postures, feelings and important roles. By nourishing the different parts of self in any struggle, The SomaTalk™ Healing Cycle unwinds adaptive protective parts into authenticity and dignity.

  • Story: Inner critic Parts holding core beliefs and past narratives

  • Shape: Protective Parts presenting in postural and nervous system directed gestures, breathing patterns and personality “shapes”

  • Shadow: Exiled, often younger Parts, burdened with painful memories and supressed emotions.

The Healing Cycle

The SomaTalk™ Healing Cycle guides clients to cycle from mind into body where adaptive patterns/parts and emotions are felt.


The method goes beyond words by facilitating somatic listening and expression; communication occurs through the language of the body (sound, breath, emotion, gestures).

The process is grounded in Opening, surrendering and trusting the truth of belonging through which ones nervous system lets go and emotion emerges.

The veil of separation is lifted and shadow parts of self once burdened with trauma and shame awaken to peace and joy.

The Healing Cycle guides Clients to

  • Sense into their body and notice the parts of self needing loving attention and expression. Self-Awareness.

  • Open to their goodness and belonging and surrender their protective persona. Offer compassion, permission, acceptance and non-resistance. Self-Compassion.

  • Move whatever emotional and physical impules that emerge using breathwork as a vehicle for expression. Self-Expression.

  • Awaken to the authentic nature of each Part of self. Remember their inherent peace and happiness. Self-Possession.
